What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal condition that is common amongst females of reproductive age, which occurs after puberty. While there can be variations in how PCOS presents per individual, typical symptoms include:
Irregular menstrual cycles (<21 days or >35 days)
Unwanted hair growth
Acne
Polycystic ovaries on ultrasound
Mood disturbances (anxiety, depression)

Assessment typically begins with having a conversation about your menstrual cycle with your primary health care provider. Clinical signs in addition to lab work to assess hormones, cardiovascular health, thyroid hormones, insulin resistance, etc. are used in the diagnosis process.
